Global Climate Strike Week: San Antonio
Updates on San Antonio's activities in support of Global Climate Strike Week have been moved to the "San Antonio Events - Supporting the Global Climate Strike" page: http://bit.ly/30NnSLr.
Roots of the Week
In August 2018, 15-year-old Swedish student Greta Thunberg began the first school strike for climate simply by leaving school to sit in front of the Swedish parliament in protest.
Global Climate Strike Week: National / International Participants and Events
There are many groups and individuals taking action, some spontaneously, some as part of an organized network. I have grouped together those working together under their own "umbrella" (in a table) to show the relationships as their meta-organizations show them.

U.S. Climate Strike within Texas
• U.S. Climate Strike has a Texas group: Climate Strike TX Facebook, which is also on Climate Strike TX Twitter. I have "friended" and had Facebook Messenger conversations with the "TX State Lead at US Youth Climate Strike," a woman named Virginia Gaffney. Virginia manages the Climate Strike TX social media presence.
I was poking around the U.S. Climate Strike page, found an "events" map with a pin in San Antonio that said, "AlamoCity Strike // Friday, September 20, 2019 • 11:30 AM // City Hall Steps // 100 Military Plaza // San Antonio, TX 78205". The host contact information for the event was "diana.atx73@gmail.com". Now, first of all, the use of "ATX" in her email tells me she's probably from Austin, like Virginia is. Second of all, the City Hall Steps are fenced off because City Hall is being gutted and remodeled -- the people who posted that don't seem to know that this is what the steps of City Hall look like now. But I honestly appreciate the hell out of SOMEBODY trying!!!
So I wrote Diana an email in which I gave her my contact information and said, "I anticipate from your email (ATX) that youre in Austin lets work together! Please give me a call or email as soon as it makes sense for you, since the week is rolling up on us super fast, and we all want to make this week just blow up to be great!"
Also, traded texts in Facebook Messenger with Virginia Gaffney. She wrote, "Brightest auto-generates listings for events like ours so people can automatically email us about their interest and YES! I am the State Lead for Climate Strike TX, the Texas chapter of the US Youth Climate Strike which is part of the youth climate coalition." This was in reference to pages like San Antonio Climate Strike (September 20). That page is something of a fishing operation... IF people do a search for activity in San Antonio, OR they use the Climate Justice Action Map, those are both "brightest.io" automatic pages. "Brightest auto-generates listings for events like ours so people can automatically email us about their interest..." I'm hoping to convince her to partner with us, since she's in Austin and they don't have people on the ground in San Antonio. We do.
